Cantine Mastrojanni

When it comes to fine wines, one inevitably thinks straight away of one of Italy's great wines best known around the world: "Brunello di Montalcino"! Among the producers of this Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin, the Mastrojanni winery of Montalcino stands out. Since 1975 it has been making history with its wines, collecting awards all over the world and becoming one of the best-known and most highly regarded producers. The Mastrojanni estate is located in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, a hamlet in the eastern part of the municipality of Montalcino, the production area of this famous wine. Here it cultivates its 40 hectares of vineyards on soil made up of clay and pebbles originating from Monte Amiata, an ancient extinct volcano rising over 1,700 metres. This is by no means easy terrain: it faces south-east, with slopes that are at times quite steep. Although the production regulations of the "Brunello di Montalcino" DOCG set a limit of 80 quintals of grapes per hectare, the estate's yields never exceed 50 quintals, an essential condition for achieving grapes of excellent quality. The reference grape variety for all of Mastrojanni's wines is Sangiovese, grown in two different "Crus", that is, in two separate vineyards within specific, defined areas, each with characteristics that give the two respective labels a well-defined and unique personality. In addition to Brunello di Montalcino, the estate also produces other wines using grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Ciliegiolo, either as single-varietal wines or in truly interesting blends, where skilful ageing in large oak barrels helps to create a smooth and elegant profile, appreciated by all the finest connoisseurs!
