Rosa di Magliano
For almost fifteen years, the company has been growing roses to produce petal syrups and preserves, with a rose garden of about 400 plants of "Rosa di Magliano". There are also olive trees, a few fruit trees, particularly quince, and several wild brambles from which they harvest a small production of blackberries. The house and the land are in the hills of the Chianti, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, in the small hamlet of Magliano, with a beautiful view over the Agliena valley and the hill of Petrognano, the ancient city of Semifonte destroyed by the Florentines in the Middle Ages. Most of the cultivation is made up of what the company has named "Rosa di Magliano". Over the years, other varieties such as "Charles de Mills", "De la Maître École", Rosa gallica "Officinalis" have also been tested, but they have not been able to surpass the intensity and freshness of the fragrance of the "Rosa di Magliano", even though they contribute interesting intensities to the color of the syrup and the preserve. I admit it: when it comes to roses, I am very biased. The scent of roses has always intoxicated me and warmed my heart, ever since I was a child, when I smelled it on my mother's cheeks (she used to remove her makeup with rose water). Having been passionate about this flower for years, my nose has become very sensitive, attuned to artificial rose scent. So it only took getting close to Isabella's syrup for me to understand that I was in the presence of a fragrance that was not only enveloping, but REAL. A fragrance born of years of experimentation, of careful and environmentally respectful cultivation, of the loving care taken in preparing the petals (the "de-petalling" is a difficult and painstaking task). Isabella's passion, which is in her genoese DNA, transforms entirely into rose syrups and preserves with an unmistakable fragrance.
