Bioalberti is a family-run farm, active for four generations among the hills of Umbria, in Poggio Aquilone, a medieval village dating back to the 1200s where we cultivate exclusively using organic methods. This is where the Black Bean is born

Black Bean

Since 1998 we have farmed exclusively according to organic methods, driven by the conviction that healthy nutrition starts from respected and fertile land. We grow legumes, cereals and olive trees, following sustainable farming practices such as crop rotation and organic fertilization. We are a young and dynamic company that combines tradition and innovation, thanks also to our collaboration with the University of Agriculture of Perugia. We have an ambitious project: the recovery of ancient and forgotten varieties such as Verna and Gentilrosso wheat, Senatore Cappelli wheat, einkorn farro, cicerchia (grass pea), black chickpea and hulled barley. This is our desire.

We produce with respect for nature, offering authentic products. Our black bean from Poggio Aquilone is a rustic and prized variety of Umbrian legume, cultivated for centuries in the hills around San Venanzo, in the province of Terni. This bean stands out for its glossy black colour, thin skin and intense yet delicate flavour, with slightly herbaceous notes. Grown on small plots using natural methods respectful of the land, it is valued both for its gastronomic worth and for its connection to the local agricultural culture. It is a true excellence to rediscover in contemporary cuisine.

Black bean in the kitchen: Ideal as a warm side dish, seasoned with extra virgin olive oil and rosemary. A perfect ingredient in rustic soups with farro or barley. It's a perfect companion to spicy sauces

Try it as a base for black hummus and spreadable creams. It pairs well with flavourful meats, such as sausage, wild boar or lamb. Rice dishes, such as risottos, whole grain rice salads or vegan bowls. This bean is also a valuable source of plant protein, fibre and mineral salts, ideal for those following a healthy and sustainable diet.
