Just a few kilometers from Siena, in the heart of Chianti, stands the Tenuta di Montechiaro. A historic winery, a family story handed down through generations. Since 2005, Alessandro Griccioli has been carrying forward tradition while also creating innovative wines with labels designed by a contemporary Italian artist. Our wines pay tribute to our family's history: Anno Domini '345 represents our line of classic wines. In 1345, Grigio was born in Barberino di Val d'Elsa, the founder of the Griccioli family (formerly Grigia), who moved to Siena around 1720. Today, the family's properties are all located in the Siena area: the Tenuta di Montechiaro and Palazzo Griccioli in the Castello di Monteriggioni. The Tenuta di Montechiaro covers 160 hectares, of which 10 hectares are vineyards and about 2000 olive trees. We have adopted an organic philosophy and have been certified since 2010. A commitment that requires greater effort and manual work but rewards us with splendid, healthy grapes. This choice reflects the goal we pursue: quality. Choosing organic farming, carried out in full respect of nature, allows us to enhance and create wines that are a true expression of the territory, wines connected to the land where they were made and thus made unique. The Tenuta's winery was built in an 18th-century building located in front of the villa. During the restoration, the original terracotta floors and structure were preserved. Today, alongside the steel vats are the ancient concrete vats, which have been fully restored. Next to the winery is the barrel room, once a stable, and the old Vinsantaia.
