Since ancient times both the flowers and berries have been used for medicinal purposes in folk medicine, and there are also countless legends surrounding this plant. It is regarded as a sacred tree in many Nordic mythologies. Elderberry is traditionally used in cooking, to prepare delicious jellies and jams, soups, fritters, juices and syrups.
