We are in the hills of the Marche region, in the Macerata area. Here the family grows the Leccino, Coroncina and Piantone di Mogliano olive varieties. An area that has distinguished itself for its policies on environmental and soil protection and for enhancing the typicality of its products. Among the Adriatic regions, Marche is the northernmost region where olive trees represent the main tree crop. The region benefits from temperatures that never reach very high or extremely low values during the year, resulting in excellent polyphenol content in the oils produced. Extra virgin olive oil from Marche is an excellent seasoning to enhance the flavour of dishes, while being healthy and nutritious at the same time. It is a food rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants. What makes it special? As with quality extra virgin olive oil produced in the various Italian regions. The extra virgin olive oil from Marche stands out for its uniqueness. Its organoleptic characteristics are the result of a perfect mix of terroir, the breezy climate and sun exposure, and native olive varieties.

Oil production

In Marche, extra virgin olive oil is produced using traditional methods. The olives are still harvested by hand or with the help of equipment that respects the fruit. Within a few hours of harvesting, the olives are pressed at the mill to guarantee maximum freshness and quality of the oil.

The Piantone di Mogliano variety

Synonyms: Piantone (Macerata), Raggiola (San Severino), Oliva Riccia (Pieve Favera), Rosciola (Tolentino), Limoncella (Monte San Martino), Maglianese (Gabbiano di Fermo), Nibbiu (Treia).

Growing Area: a Marche cultivar, mainly found in the province of Macerata. With the highest concentration in the municipalities of Mogliano, Macerata and surrounding areas, extending to the inland areas of the province, at altitudes above 600 m above sea level.

Production Characteristics: The trees come into production early. It is grown in poor, gravelly soils due to its high drought resistance. Flesh consistency and resistance to detachment are high, even at an advanced stage of ripeness. The optimal harvest period is around mid-November.

Tasting notes:

A top-quality oil. It has a light fruitiness. On the palate, smooth and sweet. It has a high oleic acid content and a good ratio of unsaturated to saturated fats. A dual-purpose variety.

It pairs well with white meats and light fish dishes, as well as soups.

The Piantone di Mogliano olive variety has a late and gradual ripening (invaiatura). Fruit colour ranges from light green to purplish red, with visible lenticels. Widespread throughout most of the Macerata area. Flesh consistency and resistance to detachment are high at an advanced stage of ripeness. It has a medium-large drupe of about 2 â 3 g, ovoid in shape.
