Already in the mid-20th century, thanks to emigration from the south, it spread to the north and the slices, once put in oil, become a very popular flavoring for pizzas and sauces. Today, its diffusion has increased thanks to creative cuisine and gourmet interpretations.

The idea of cutting it into slices was born both from the abundant availability of Calabrian chili pepper and from the need to find a way to preserve it in winter. Furthermore, cut into thin slices, it loses water easily, and absorbs vinegar and oil well.
