Our farm l'orto sotto casa was founded in 2016 with the first crops of fruit and vegetables and the opening of a dedicated farm shop. Within just a few months we grew and expanded our cultivated land to over 2 hectares, which are still farmed today. Our idea is to follow the seasonal rhythms of nature. In fact, some of our products can only be found at certain times of the year, in full harmony with natural cycles. We grow vegetables and produce, which we select and harvest fresh every day, early in the morning and in the afternoon, precisely to guarantee maximum freshness. We take pride in showcasing our finest products, first and foremost the queen of our region: the "Cipolla di Certaldo" onion. This onion has unique characteristics that set it apart, enjoyed both fresh and as a compote, thanks to its strong yet at the same time sweet flavor. It is mentioned in the Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio, which testifies to the fact that it was already being grown and eaten at that time. The image of the onion also appears in the 12th century, in the ancient coat of arms of Certaldo. The onion stood proudly on the white field of the shield, with the motto "Per natura sono forte e dolce ancora / e piaccio a chi sta e a chi lavora" ("By nature I am strong and yet sweet, and I please both those who rest and those who work"), a testament to the importance of this variety in the area. It is precisely with the Cipolla di Certaldo that we create products with a unique taste, such as our compote, salami, and even onion biscuits!
